Playing around in Apophysis and I began to see something that resembled feathery wings. So I made angel wings.
Rendered in Apophysis.

They actually reminded me more of ghosts or spirits than angels. Was the color in apophysis too? I still haven't quite figured out apophysis so I can't tell if that is how it rendered or it was altered later. I like the perception of depth a lot and the flow of color from light pastels to dark blue which I think also leads me to think of spirits.

Yup, the color was in Apophysis. I took one gradent and changed the hue. I did no post work on this one. Thanks for your comment. :)

Wow! I've never heard of that program, nor have I seen much of this art. I think it's awesome! Beautiful colors and neat idea! I espically love the textures and feathery feel!

I used a program called Apophysis. You can download the most current version here [link] There are a bunch of tutorials floating around here on dA for it. If you want a link to a list of them after you download the program I can send it too you and I can try my best to answer any questions you might have. :)
